Today Our Club is delighted to announce that Hastings Insurance Brokers have become sponsors of Westport United’s Club Academy.
This partnership is an extremely exciting step forward for our growing academy. To be associated with a company that is also seeing great growth is such a positive message for our Academy members and Hastings Insurance Brokers customers alike, as we all come out of what has been a difficult year for both business and sporting organisations.
Hastings Insurance Brokers have been providing quality insurance services and advice for 41 years since the company was formed in 1980 by David & Mary Mc Dermott.
Over that time, they have grown considerably and now have seven offices across Connacht located in Westport, Claremorris, Ballina, Castlebar, Tuam, Galway City and Sligo. Hastings Insurance Brokers successfully provide insurance and financial services to people, families, and businesses all over Connacht and Ireland.
The Westport United Club Academy has similarly shown considerable growth in recent years. The Academy now caters for over 140 boy and girls from 6-9 years of age, all of whom are coached in a safe and fun environment by volunteer coaches under the direction of Gerry Needham, Academy Head.
The Hastings Insurance Academy offers the first step on the pathway for the stars of tomorrow who are looking to one day play for the red and black of Westport United and beyond.

Over the past few couple of years, every Monday and Thursday evening during the months of May-September close on 140 boys and girls aged 6-9 years of age have gathered at United park showcasing their enthusiasm and excitement for the game of soccer. This all happens under the excellent tutelage of Gerry Needham and his team of coaches. With Hastings Insurance now coming on board as part of that team for the next 3 years, we believe our Academy will go from strength to strength, and I would like to take this opportunity to Thank Paul and the Mc Dermott family for their support and generosity in this new partnership”.
The Hastings Insurance Academy will this year begin on Monday 10th May until Thursday September 2nd inclusive and will operate every Monday and Thursday at United Park at 5pm and 6pm respectively for boys and girls from 6-9 years of age (players born 2012-2015) but must have attained their sixth birthday before they can join. The Academy welcomes boys and girls of all abilities and our programme is designed as one of Inclusion.
As per FAI Guidelines on the Safe Return to Training, there will be restrictions on numbers per session and the guidelines may vary, depending on further FAI protocols. During the summer, the boys and girls will get the opportunity to play against other teams, which they will undoubtedly enjoy and will help them grow in confidence.
