Pat Fitzgerald Finishes as County Secretary after 32 Years

Sixmilebridge Gaa Club man, Pat Fitzgerald finished up as County Secretary recently. Writing to Clare Gaa Pat said:

“I am writing to inform you that after 32 years of service, it is my intention to step down from my role as Clare county secretary on the 18th July this year,”

“I wish the county and all our teams the very best with all future endeavours and plans, both on and off the field of play. I am very proud of what we have achieved together over many long years and I wish you every success into the future.

“It has been a busy and demanding role and one I have enjoyed immensely. I wish the county and all our teams only the very best with all future endeavours and plans, both on and off the field of play. I am very proud of what we have achieved together over many long years and I wish you every success into the future. I look forward to supporting our county as a fan and assisting in any way I can in the years to come,”

During Pats time as Secretary of Clare GAA, Clare teams won 3 All-Ireland SHC titles (1995, 1997 and 2013), the Munster SFC (1992), the Munster SHC on 3 occasions (1995, 1997 and 1998), 4 All-Ireland and Munster U21 championships (2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014), 1 Minor All-Ireland hurling championship (1997).

Pat started out as Chairman of Sixmilebridge Minor Club in the early 80s before moving on to the County Bord Na Nog setup where also served as Chairman and finally he was appointed County Secretary in July 1990. Pat had served in the role in a voluntary capacity for 17 years until 2007 when he was successful in an interview process to take on the job full time.

The Club would like to acknowledge Pats years of service to the Gaa at club and county level down through the years and wish all the best to Pat and Nuala going forward.
