Our Junior Bs began their League campaign in Gurteen on Sunday against St. Josephs Doora Barefield. The fixture pitted against each other, the 2022 Junior C finalists of only a few months ago.
Barefield led 1-7 to 0-7 at half time, with Michael O' Halloran bagging all of Sixmilebridge scores, with 5 from play and 2 frees.
The second half saw the 'Bridge battle hard against the wind. The introduction of Stiofan Fitzpatrick and Brian Culbert helped to hold ball in the forward line which provided opportunities for multiple goal attempts with Donald Devanney on hand and he bagged 4!
There was a good mix of youth and experience for this groups first competitive game of the season and although they lost out by a score in the end, it was a good honest performance that they can build from. There were very good displays from young lad Paddy Reilly at midfield who fought for every ball, as well as the the experienced Michael O' Halloran, Donald Devanney and Paul Corbett. O' Halloran finished with 8 points and put over some difficult frees as well as some long range points from play. Devanney benefitted all day from his strength in the tackle and beat his man on several occasions to get in for his 4 green flags.
Next up, in Round 2, for this team is Clonlara, currently scheduled for April 10th.
