SENIOR HURLING

Despite a brave effort we were defeated by Kilruane MacDonaghs in the relegation semi final in Dolla last weekend. The sides were level numerous times in the first quarter before a spell of dominance from Kilruane saw them score 6 points in a row. Upperchurch responded to narrow the gap to 3 but it was Kilruane who struck the final blow of the half when they found the net in the 31st minute. This saw them lead by 6 points at the break. Some good pressure and point taking at the resumption saw Upperchurch get back into the game and by the 16 minute mark the sides were level again. 1-2 in the space of 3 minutes saw Kilruane gain the initiative and despite our efforts they held on for a 4 point victory. Final score was 2-18 to 0-20. In the other relegation semi Clonoulty Rossmore beat JK Brackens which means we will face Brackens in the relegation final scheduled for next weekend. Full fixture details will be known early next week.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING

The Intermediate hurlers ended their season in fine fashion by defeating Kiladangan in the relegation final in Templederry last Saturday. Despite going in as underdogs we started brightly and were 3 up within 10 minutes before Kiladangan netted a goal to draw the sides level. We responded well, scoring 3 of the next 4 points before Kiladangan were reduced to 14 men after a straight red card for a dangerous challenge. Upperchurch took quick advantage of this and added on 2 points. Then a well worked move saw the sliotar find its way to Oisin Treacy who scored our first goal of the game and put us 6 points in front. Kiladangan were dogged fighters though and scored another goal of their own to go into half time 1 point in arrears. Upperchurch started strongest in the second half and a Pat Shortt goal 5 minutes in helped to build a 4 point lead midway through the half. A penalty awarded to Kiladangan seemed as if it might turn things in their favour but TJ Butler pulled off a fine save and entering the final minute of normal time Upperchurch held a 6 point lead. Kiladangan threw everything they had at us and in dramatic fashion scored 2 goals in 2 minutes to put the sides level. It now seemed that extra time was in store, however a foul on Matthew Greene saw Upperchurch get one final chance and Pat Shortt made no mistake from the free to give us a 1 point victory and maintain our intermediate status for 2024. Well done to all involved with the side. Final score was 2-20 to 4-13.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL

The junior B footballers claimed our first silverware of the season in winning the mid title last Tuesday night. Coming up against a strong Moyne-Templetouhy side we knew that goals may be key and when Tom Purcell found the net in the first minute it set the tone for the match. Jim O'Dwyer slotted a penalty a few minutes after and this was quickly followed by another from Conor Ryan Jack. A couple of points from Eanna Ryan saw Upperchurch take a 6 point lead into half time. We started the second half as quickly as the first and a Jim O'Dwyer point was followed by a goal from Seamie Armstrong to give us a 10 point lead. After a Jim O'Dwyer point it was left to Conor Ryan Jack to play a captains role and add 2 further goals as we won by 6-4 to 0-8. Well done to all involved. We now face into a county quarter final in a few weeks time.

JUNIOR C HURLING

Best of luck to our junior C team who face Loughmore Castleiney in the mid semi final this Sunday at 1:30pm in the Outside Field Thurles
