Our love and passion for our club and for Gaelic games should always be tempered and indeed accentuated by the contents of this document. It is vital that the contents are shared to ALL teams within theClub.

Sideline Policy:

Promoting and Encouraging Good Sportsmanship for Parents, Spectators and Coaches at all games and training held in Stars of Erin, Glencullen, Dublin 18.

The purpose of this policy is to advise individuals where Stars of Erin stands in regards to a positive sideline atmosphere.

We want to promote continued participation of our players and recognise the valiant effort of our volunteer coaches and young referees who are often minors. As such, it is imperative that all individuals attending GAA games in Stars of Erin adhere to the highest standards of sportsmanship and respect for all involved.

Positive Cheering and Clapping: Only positive cheering and clapping are allowed during GAA games. We encourage all spectators, parents, and coaches to support our players and teams in a constructive and encouraging manner. Cheer on good plays, applaud efforts, and celebrate the achievements of both teams.

Think twice: Before interacting with opposing fans, referees, coaches, and players, take a breath. Use common sense, be respectful, act in a sportsmanlike manner, remember players want to have fun, always choose the higher ground and represent yourself and Stars of Erin positively. If your engagement is not positive, do not engage.

Zero Tolerance for Abuse: No abusive language or behaviour will be tolerated at any time. This includes negative, derogatory, racist and homophobic remarks towards players, coaches, referees, or other spectators. Such behaviour not only tarnishes the spirit of the game but also sets a poor example for younger players and spectators. The use of foul language in front of minors is never tolerated.

Consequences for Violations: Any individual found engaging in verbally abusive behaviour will be asked to leave the pitch immediately. This applies to parents, spectators, and coaches alike. Our priority is to maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved in camogie, hurling and football games on clubhouse grounds.

Spectator Placement: All spectators are required to stand behind the fences on the sides of the pitch. This ensures clear visibility for players, coaches, and referees, and helps maintain order and organisation during the game. No encroachment onto the pitch is permitted

Respect for Volunteers and Young Officials: We emphasise the importance of showing appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our volunteer coaches and young referees. They contribute significantly to the development and success of our players and teams, and deserve our utmost respect and support. Volunteer mentors and coaches are often parents of children in the club, and want to give back to the community through this volunteer role.

Encouraging Fair Play: We encourage all participants and spectators to uphold the principles of fair play and sportsmanship throughout the game. Respect decisions made by referees, accept both victory and defeat graciously, and demonstrate integrity in all interactions on and off the pitch.

Coach Discussions: Coaches are doing their best and managing the game in real time. Take the time to consider your need for a discussion regarding the games play. Coaches and Stars of Erin can always make time to speak with you outside of game day and in an environment that allows for constructive dialogue, without the presence of players and families.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where everyone can enjoy GAA games to the fullest. Let's work together to foster a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and camaraderie within our Stars of Erin community.
