Weekend Adult Football Match Reports.
It was a good weekend for Adult Football with 4 out of 4 wins.
Seniors.
It was an early Saturday trip to Thomas Ashe Club in Lusk on a crisp hardy morning. The team was depleted due to injuries and inter county commitments. We played with the hill and a strong wind in the first half . As often happens playing with a strong wind it was proving difficult in the first 10 mins to get accurate balls into the full forward line. The first score a po8nt ,came from Luke Cullen and Sean Parker then converted a 45 before Lusk got their first score and they followed up with another one. Oisin Grady and Liam Fenton hit 2 in a row before we got the first of our 2 goals . It was a strong run through the middle By Dave Deveroux who buried it to the net. We hit 6 of the next 7 points with 2 coming from Donnacha Carey. This left the half time score 1-9 to 0-4 .
Lusk started the second half in strong fashion when scoring straight from the throw in and followed up with 2 more points, bringing the deficit to 6 points after 15 mins of the restart. However the introduction of Eoin Fitapatrick for his first game since last October stabilised matters. Our first second half score came from a strong 35 metre run by Luke Cullen been pursued by 2 Lusk players before been fouled in front of goal. Our second goal came from a great movement with Eoin Fitzpartick breaking the tackle , laying the ball off to Joe Sweeney who laid it off to Jack Lundy who finished to the net. Each team exchanged a brace of points to leave the final score 2-13 to 0-10. A satisfactory result that leaves us joint top of Division 1 with Na Fianna ,with 3 wins out of 3 . Best for BSJ in what was a good team performance were Sean Parker ( his kick outs against the strong wind in the second half were excellent) Ian O Heither , Eoin Fitzpatrick and Luke Cullan
An interesting stat from the match was that we had 5 set of brothers involved, Johnny and Joey Quirke, Nicky and Dave Deveroux, Liam and Seamus Fenton , Luke and Ronan Cullan , Colm and Eoin Fitzpatrick.We definitely had a country club look about us .

Inters
A Marlay Park meeting V Crokes and a strongly motivated BSJ team were out for revenge last year’s Junior Championship semi final loss. We started off in strong fashion with 2 points from Joey Quirke . Then we missed a penalty from Eoghan Seoige before Eoghan redeemed himself a few minutes later with a well taken goal . We kicked on with points from John Clare converting 3 long range frees and 2 from Joey Quirke to leave the half time score 1-7 to 0-2.
Playing against the breeze in the second half we started brightly with a great individual point scored by Eoghan Seoige . Both teams exchanged a brace of points before we got our second goal . It involved a great movement with Finn Nolan laying off to Naoise Cronin who laid off to Sam Tully with Eoghan Seoige finishing to the net. A 10 minutes period of sloppy play allowed Crokes back into the game when they scored 1-2 without reply. We got our third goal when a shot by Joey Quirke hit the post but the rebound was finished to the net by Finn Nolan . While Crokes came back with 1-1 , however we finished strongly with 2 points and a goal by Joey Quirke. Final score 4-12 to 2-9 in what was an excellent game of football. Best for BSJ were Keith Piggot with very accurate kick outs, Eoghan Seoige with an eventful match (a missed penalty , a black card and scoring 2-2) , Naoise Cronin , John Clare , Dan O leary, Kevin Mulderrig and Joey Quirke.

Junior A.
A Marlay Pk match V Bank of Ireland. As expected this was an experience BOI team playing a very young BSJ team and it showed in the early stages . While possession was evenly divided BOI scores came a lot easier. We however keep battling away and with Oisin Cronin bringing off some excellent saves we went in at half time only 1 point down having played up the hill and with the wind.
The first score of the second half went to BOI. This was followed by an inspirational point by Michael De Faoite. Points were then exchanged before Sean Gildea kicked a great point. We kicked the next 3 points including a great effort from Lughaidh Lynch to give up a 4 points lead. We completely dominated the last 10 mins of play due to our greater fitness level and created numerous goal chances but converting none. So instead of killing off the game , BOI went up the field to score a goal ,leaving the minimum between the teams. Heart stopping last minuts for the Chairman and coach Frankie Ward but we held on.
Best for BSJ were Oisin Cronin, Eoin Hoctor, Sean Gildea, Michael De Faoite and Andrew Aherne.

Junior B
The Junior B V footballers extended their unbeaten run on a muddy field in Rathcoole V St Marys ,but despite what a final scoreline of 4-13 to 1-8 says, the result was in question for most of the game.
Spirits were buoyed by the arrival of the injured Colm O'Donnell whose brave progress on crutches provided inspiration and a little comic relief. DJ Corbett arrived in similarly impressive fashion having driven straight from Kerry where, no doubt, he was working on that sweet left foot of his.
St. John's started well but the concession of an early goal spurred on a St. Mary's team with plenty of skill and strength. The usual slick passing moves were breaking down more often than not ,yet the men in tangerine and black still went in at half-time three points ahead. This was in no small part due to heroic defending from the likes of John Gillick and Kieran McCabe. Cael Meagher also put his pace and anticipation to good use. Meanwhile Cian Hallinan and Brian Monaghan ran tirelessly to create chances for themselves, Billy Davoren and the ever-dangerous Oisín Daffy.
The second half saw the team having to play against the wind and uphill but performances continued to improve. Moni and Cian sprayed around beautiful kick-passes and the scoreboard ticked upwards faster and faster. Billy buried a penalty right into the corner of the net and then Ritchie Clune showed his continuing passion for education by teaching some much-needed manners to one of the opposition's less loveable members. Tony Gillick did the same thing (by legal means mostly) when called upon to mark the biggest and best player Mary's had.
Future outings will require a better start to the game but the determination and skill on show today shows that any opponent looking to get full points will have their hands full.
