Nicks 6-12 v 1-2 D'hill

HT 2-7 v 1-1

Ref; Tommy Carr

St. Nicholas opened their league campaign with a comfortable victory in Darver on Saturday evening. The Nicks, home team on the night as Jimmy Pentony park was unplayable, raced out the blocks with Lee Kavanagh finding the net within the first minute. Both teams struggled with the elements, but it was St.Nicholas who found their shooting boots with points from Sam Reilly, Phillip Kirwan, Fionn Meagher and a Kavanagh free. The Hill fought their way back into the half against a gale force wind and were rewarded for their endeavours with a goal from the penalty spot. They added another point from play before Paudi Downey found the net from distance for the Nicks, floating it over the stranded Dowdallshill keeper.

The second half began as the first had with Phillip Kirwan raising a green flag following good play from Brian Carter and Reilly from the throw in. The Nicks put the result beyond doubt with goals from the impressive Sam Reilly and points from Meagher and Kavanagh. A fine end to end team goal finished by corner back Stevie Finegan was the final score as St.Nicholas left a wind-swept Darver with two league points on the board.
