Parish League 2024 - Winners

The 2024 Parish League concluded on Sunday last with a thrilling Final Game between Kilmurry and the Mountain. Level on points entering the last round, it was decided to that both teams would play in a winner takes all game. This final game pitted the 2022 champions Kilmurry against the 2023 champions the Mountain!

The 2024 league has been for the Junior, Togging Out and Returning players and up to 80 players took part throughout the Rounds.

The Mountain were managed by PJ Fitzpatrick and Kilmurry were managed by Brendan O' Callghaan and his backroom team of Declan Sheedy, Tom Keogh and others. Refereee for the evening was Mikey Corbett. Keeping Track of Scores and making sure all went well on the evening was Adrian Hogan.

A very exciting game was played out over three 12 minute periods which saw the lead change between both teams over the course of the match. After Period 1,the Montain led by one at 12-11. However after Period 2 following some fine scoring from Brendan Carey and Errol Tuohy, Kilmurry had gone in front and led by four at 23-19. The final round saw a 4 goal salvo from Danny Dunne of the Mountain help them on their way including an amazing finish. Brian O' Neill in goals pulled down Conor Gilligan with a tactical foul as Conor was bearing down on goals ready to strike for the equalising goal! For the subsequent free, the ball was played back to the big man Brian Culbert in the Kilmurry goals and he started soloing towards the Mountain goals, powering through the middle but as he passed the ball to his left, his team mates couldn't gain possession, dropped the ball and David O' Conor gained possession and lobbed the now out of position Kilmurry goalie from well out the field for a dramatic finish seeing the Mountain win by 2, 30-28.

Afterwards the Mikey Sheedy cup was presented by Declan Sheedy to Mountain Captain, the long haired warrior Jack Lee.


All in all it has been an enjoyable few rounds and all that played in the league enjoyed it. Well done to the Mountain on the Two-In-A-Row maybe this could be the start of Parish League domination for the next few years!
