Portarlington      2.05  (11)
Rosenallis      2.09  (15)

Our U13 Hurlers hosted Rosenallis on Wednesday evening in their first Championship Hurling game.

Both teams were up for the game on a lovely warm eve in Mc Cann Park.  They settled down to business straight away, Rosenallis won the throw in and applied the pressure immediately. Early play was confined to midfield and Port's defence was saved on several occasions by Liam Mullen (C) who excelled during the game. Rosenallis got the first goal and Port responded within 6 minutes to claim a goal also, The game flowed with both teams matching in attack, but Rosenallis  were awarded a free, at about 45 meters out, and it went straight into the net. Port kept the heads up and brought in a half time scoreline of Port 1.03 (6), Rosenallis 2.05 (11).
Starting the second half with a six-point difference and some fresh legs gave the boys a burst of energy. Port enjoyed a good 8 minutes in the Rosenallis half but were only rewarded with two points for their efforts. Rosenallis increased the tempo and added two more easy points to their tally. A moment of magic opened up for Sam Lyons, just at the edge of the Rosenallis 'D',  he took control on the first touch of the sliotar and buried it in the back of the net.  What a sigh of relief for the lads and with the end in sight and Port were now only two points behind. It must have been the warm sun or the sports day in school , but the energy was being zapped out of them and they were doing all they could to stop the Rosenallis advancement. The day was not to be Ports as two more points were conceded in the last three minutes.
This was a valiant effort by these twelve-year-old boys who were deeply disappointed at the final score of Port 2.05(11), Rosenallis 2.09 (15).
These Lads did themselves and the club proud, Well Done all.
