We travelled to Multy on Friday evening last to take on Castletown Finea Coole Whitehall in Round 3 of the Championship. On a fine evening for football both teams were focused on securing the points on offer. The strong second half showing from our opponents ultimately won them the game on a 3:10 to 0:12 score line.

CFCW started the brighter and had the first two points on the board early doors. A tricky cross wind that favoured neither side, Bun responded well and had a great goal chance after confussion between the keeper and his defender. An excellent goal line clearance averted the danger and Bun came away empty handed. An Aidan Finnan free steadied Bun as they looked to establish a foothold in the game.

Having lost a couple of players through injury, CFCW weather the storm and went into a commanding lead when they scored a goal from play after 11 minutes. This put them into a 1:03 to 0:01 lead.

Bun rallied and would dominate possession for the remaining 20 minutes of the half. An Aidan Finnan forty five narrowed the gap before he made a burst along the endline only to see his shot met with a finger tip safe from the keeper to put over the bar.

A pair of Barry O Mara frees brought the gap back to 1 as Bun enjoyed a period of dominance both in possession on the scoreboard. Mark Donnelly brought the sides level when he fired over after been sent clear after some great work by John Kiernan. CFCW replied then with a point of their own to go into the half time break a point ahead 1:04 to 0:06.

CFCW started the second half as they did the first and had the first two points on the board to extend their lead to three. Simon Moorehead scored Bun’s first point of the half after a brilliant run forward and he collected the return from O Mara to fire over.

CFCW replied instantly with an excellent point of their own. The next five minutes decided the game and it was CFCW who took the initiative. Two goals minutes apart extended their lead to 9.

To their credit, Bun responded well to these set backs to ensure they finished strongly. Ken Conroy kicked an excellent point with the outside of his left after been set up by Peter Tormey. Darragh Lyons then got in on the action with a neat point after some good work from Luke Kiernan.

Barry O Mara and two Tormey points from play exchanged scores with CFCW to bring the scoring to a close. A missed penalty could have brought the score line closer but it was not to be for Bun on this occasion as CFCW recorded the victory. Next up is a clash with St. Joseph’s in 2 weeks.
