Senior Ladies Result

The Downs Ladies made it three wins from three in the Championship as they took on Garrycastle on Thursday evening in Breedon Molloy Park. Garrycastle always formidable opponents set up a strong defence from the off making scores hard won. The scoring was opened by Michelle Bohan four minutes in and then Beth Maguire hitting the net with her first free followed by a Garrycastle point. Lucy Power then answered with a point from play. Garrycastle were next to reply but with The Downs defence playing a blinder, that would be their final score of the half. Francesca Walshe hit the net for The Downs again in the twenty-sixth minute. A Beth Maguire free and a point from Francesca Walsh brought the half-time tally to The Downs 2-4 Garrycastle 0-2. Holly Dowdall came storming out of the blocks in the 2nd half to score 1-1 within minutes. The Downs added points from Mary Lynam and Francesca Walsh along with frees from Niamh Nolan and Beth Maguire before Garrycastle came back fighting to hit the net twice in quick succession. It wouldn’t be enough, however, and the Downs Ladies responded with two more points from Francesca Walsh & Holly Dowdall to secure a well-deserved victory. Final Score : The Downs 3-11 Garrycastle 2-2.

LGFA Underage Results

The U8 and U10 girls travelled to Ballymore on Saturday morning for the most recent Go Games. All our girls are showing great improvements and enjoyed a wonderful morning of football. Many thanks to Ballymore GAA for hosting.
On Tuesday evening last our U12 squad travelled to Springfield to play Mullingar Shamrocks. Each and every girl played with composure and skill beyond their years showing great progress by this group. Well done to all.

Our U16 ladies hosted Ballycomoyle on Tuesday evening in the 2nd round of the championship. Despite an early setback, the Downs took an early lead with some quality points. Ballycomoyle then got a foothold in the game with a goal and a couple of well taken points. However, our girls responded with some top quality finishes to the back of the net and some fine points to lead by 3-6 to 1-5 at the break. With the aid of the breeze, the girls in black and amber made a strong start to the second half, and some fine team moves moved us further ahead. Ballycomoyle rallied well towards the end, but a couple of late scores stretched the lead for the hosts to see The Downs run out victors by a final score of 5-13 to 2-11. A special mention to Rachel Montgomery from our U14 panel who stepped into goals at the last minute and had an outstanding game. Well done to all.
