Inters: Junior 1 Championship

We met our neighbours Ballyboden again, this time in the Junior 1 QTR Final.

On what was a cold and damp Sunday morning ,but  with the pitch in excellent condition  we were served up a good game by two very well matched young teams in front of a big crowd .

Boden got the first score of the game, a point. We levelled when Johhny Quirke went on a solo run to lay off to his brother Joey for a point. While Boden got the next point we levelled it when Eoghan Seoige rounded his man for a good score. It was 3 points all after 15 minutes when we went on a scoring spree. There were points from Dara  Kennedy, Eoghan Seoige and an excellent point when following a turnover by Finn Nolan  and a first time delivery to Jack Kennelly saw him kick an  excellent point. However the 3 point lead was short lived when Boden got their first gaol in the  twentieth minute. We had a number of chances to clear the ball before we allowed the Boden player to cut in from the endline and finish to the net. Eoghan Seoige got the next point and we followed up with another when Joey Quirke having received a long delivery from Shane Mc Cann turned his man to kick a point. We then hit our first goal, when a great passing movement saw Eoghan Seoige who was on fire in the first half finished  to the net to leave us 1-8 to 1-4 up at ht.

We hit the first point of the second half  when Johnny Quirke took a pass off the shoulder to score. The next score also came from a half back when Jack Kennelly made the break up the field to hand pass over the bar. Another point from Joey Quirke left us in a commanding lead of 1-11 to 1-6 after 40 minutes. We had a number of chances of killing the game but wrong decision making and over carrying where the referee was very consistent in applying the rule, saw those chances go abegging.  We then got hit with a Boden second goal when their initial shot was well saved by Oisin Cronin but the rebound was finished to the net. Boden then hit the next 3 points to go a point up. John Clair brought it back level when he scored an excellent point from a  Shane Mc Cann lay off. Boden went a point up but again John Clair responded with a good equaliser. By this time management had made a number of substitutions. Cian Barry been one of them kicked a good point. With the score at 1-13 to 2-9, the game was on a knife edge. However we got the last 2 scores of the game , our second goall and a point. Our second goal was similar to Boden’s second when the rebound was finished to the net by Eoghan Seoige. Final score BSJ 2-14 Boden 2-10.

Best for BSJ were Cormac O Dwyer , who took a bit of time to get the handle of the his towering man but stuck well to his task after, Finn Noaln who made critical turnover in those crucial  minutes in the second half and launched good attacks, Jack Kennelly where his  breaks from defence gave us launching pads for scores, Johhny Quirke another half back making a lot of good runs , Patrick Coleman at mid field , John Clair who kicked important scores when our backs were against the wall and MOTM Eoghan Seoige who got 2-3 from play .

Management will be happy with the  result but not too happy the way  we allowed Boden back into the game and went 10 mins in the second half without a score.

So onto the semifinal .The draw was an open draw and for once we were drawn out of the hat first for a home venue V St Pats of Donabate  on Sunday  6th October at 11.

The other Semi Final is between Fingallians V Thomas Davis. From looking at  the round robin results it is clear that there is very little between all 4 teams .

Junior C; Junior 5 Championship

Our last match for our Junior 5 team which was put together for this Championship saw us pitched against Geraldine P Morans in a relegation battle.

The team put in a massive effort and brought the game to extra time but the more experienced Gers team which had a full league campaign behind them  overwhelmed us in extra time.

We hope that the experience the players gained  , especially those who were playing in their first adult campaign will stand well to them going forward.
