Adult Hurling Report on 2024-WHAT A YEAR🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼💚💚💚
At the start of the year we set our targets of league promotion and to progress further than quarter final in Championship.
We went through the league unbeaten and topped Division10N. League promotion achieved!👏🏼⭐️
Despite losing our 1st Championship game we regrouped and recovered to finish 2nd in the Junior G group.
In a howling gale and horizontal rain on Bells we beat a tough Oliver Plunkett's ER team.
Our semi-final was against Na Gaeil Aeracha, the only team to have beaten us all year. The lads trained hard in the run-up to the game and got the win on the day.
We were off to the final and had achieved promotion in Championship too!
Unfortunately for us the final did not go our way and we lost to a very experienced St James Gaels/An Caislean team.
The crowd of supporters for the final was MASSIVE. Probably the biggest crowd ever seen at an O'Dwyers hurling match!😁😁
Throughout the year there has been a buzz around the hurling team which spread across the club as the year went on. The buzz was so infectious that the club even gained a new hurler from the footballers. Who says there's an age limit to taking up hurling!💪🏼
The players and management would like to thank the O'Dwyers members, juvenile players and members of the community who came out to support us. We would also like to thank the club executive for their support to adult hurling over the years💚
Hurling is back at O'Dwyers with the 'Moving On Up' initiative kicked off by Ronan Coone and Humphrey Kelliher and hopefully the team's success this year will be only the start of a new era of hurling in Balbriggan.
⭐️FUN FACT⭐️
5 years ago to the day , many of our current Adult hurlers won their first hurling championship at u15 (check out the picture on the right) , the majority of these players have played together from nursery upwards and now they finished out the year with a narrow defeat to St James Gaels/An Caisleán in the Championship Final. Super to see them still playing!
A lot to be proud of, well done!! 👏🏼
