We are delighted to announce that the club was honoured at a ceremony in Croke Park on Saturday 9 November as one of 90 Green Clubs across Ireland taking sustainability action for the club and community. Ailish Le Lievre accepted the award on behalf of the club from GAA President Jarlath Burns who said “Green Clubs are reinforcing our social leadership, improving their facilities, and helping ensure a better future for their communities.''
For our part some of our initiatives included working with members of the Tidy Towns who were instrumental in helping us identify what we already have, including over 30 different types of native wild flowers growing on our grounds and putting measures in place to protect them. We have identified an area which will become a wild flowering meadow over the course of the next 3 to 4 years.  Our Green Club initiatives are looking at safeguarding the future environment of the club for current and future members and the community, said our Chairperson Dave Cahill who dedicated the award to the memory of the late Finbar Darcy, a valued member of our club who sadly passed away this year and was instrumental in achieving this award for the club.
