if you were lucky enough to be in Cobh Friday evening  for our second game in the Pan Munster Cup ,you would have witnessed a cracking game of Rugby between  2 evenly matched teams.

The game started with Old Christians playing up the hill and it was a nervous start from our guys. A series of errors saw hand the ball over to Cobh deep inside our 22 the defence held the first few phases of the Cobh attack out but in the third minute we conceded the first try of the game under the posts 7- 0 Cobh. For the next 10 minutes our boys battled manfully to get into the game, some strong ball carrying by Brian, Chris and Manny saw our guys find their way in to the game, and We scored our first try through Manny in the corner. Try was unconverted making the score now 7-5 to Cobh. Our guys now were showing their character and kept the Cobh defence honest. 4 minutes later Chris crashed over for a try which Donnacha converted making the score now 7- 12 Old Christians.                         We scored again in the corner after 25 minutes when Chris broke free out wide and raced clear of the defence to score, try was unconverted, score now was 7-17 Old Christians. But Cobh tackled hard and were determined to stay in the game. They managed to keep the pressure on our lads with some strong tackling and after a few lapses of concentration in defence Cobh scored under the posts on the stroke of halftime. Score at the break 14-17 Old Christians. The second half began much the same as the first with some uncharacteristical errors from our boys and 2 minutes into the second half we conceded a try which was converted making the score now 21-17 to Cobh. Worse was to come with Brian in the Bin, Cobh scored again and stretched their lead out to 11 points, they now lead by a score of 28-17 with 40 minutes on the Clock. This now was going to test this squads Character as they now had to for the first time this season dig deep to pull back an 11 point lead from a very strong and well drilled Cobh side.               To a man they answered that call. The final 20 minutes saw this team show its true character from 1 to 15 they took this game by the scruff of the neck and refused to be beaten. 5 minutes later Brian crashed over for a try which Donnacha converted. Score now 28-24 to Cobh with 15 minutes remaining, game on. Old Christians now on the front foot and throwing the kitchen sink at Cobh who defended manfully wave after wave of attacks, Cobh finally succumbed to the pressure with Manny scoring his second and Donnacha again converting. Score now heading into the last 10 minutes was 28-31 Old Christians. The last 10 minutes was like a heavyweight boxing match with both teams going at each other hammer and Thongs. Old Christians managing to see out the last minutes to claim a very well earned Victory. It wasn't our finest display but it spoke volumes for the team spirit and character of these young men to win a game without being at their best. Our thanks to all the boys that showed up tonight and our apologies to those that didn't get any game time but there will be plenty opportunities for game time in the coming weeks as we have to use the whole squad during what will be long hard campaign.

Well done to Davyn and the the squad for a character building Victory.
