The Dicksboro St Stephens Day Gaelic Football Match in aid of Cois Nore threw in at 10am on Pitch 1 this morning in very mild conditions which suited the free flowing football on show.
The Dicksboro Maroon team were managed by current senior team manager Aidan Maher & the Dicksboro Whites were managed by big ball veteran John O'Gorman.
The Whites started well with Orla Hanrick & Aoife Prendergast causing untold damage to the Maroon defence. Edward Moylan helped steady the Maroon ship with some fantastic passes while the O'Gorman sisters Aobha & Sarah were also keeping the Whites at bay. Aisling Browne was also proving to be a thorn in the Maroon side on the left flank. A late Peter Conroy goal gave the Maroons hope at the whistle. Half time score Whites 3-2 Maroons 2-1.
The Whites started well 2nd half with Timmy Clifford & Caoimhe Dunne Dowlings off the shoulder trademark runs and link up play causing huge trouble for the Maroons. One such run ended up with Orla Hanrick dropping the shoulder with a trademark dummy and sending Darragh Holohan for Pitch 2 before easily dispatching passed Conor Fitz in the sticks.
The introduction of player managers Aidan & Johno sparked the game into life from then on. Shrewd changes in formation were made with Rachel Dowling & Tara Mcgrath bombing forward on the right flank while Brenno, Shark, Tom Carroll & Beans Moylan were laying siege to the Brennans end goal.
The White defence of Niall Rowe & Brian Manogue were starting to show weakness while Izzy Carroll was winning the battle with older brother Evan. A lack of disciplin in the White defence resulted in 2 stone wall penalties being awarded to the Maroons. Both were well dispatched and brought the Maroons back into it. One tucked away by Manager Aidan Maher who calmly passed the ball passed his own godson Liam Moore. No time for family ties today. Game on.
It was nip and tuck from there to the finish with Hackett, Conroy & Mchardy doing all for the Maroon cause. Aran Murphy, Kev Fitz & Bronagh Doheny came out with vital balls near the death to just hold the fort as the final whistle blew.
Final Score from Palmerstown
Dicksboro Whites 6-9
Dicksboro Maroon 7-3
Thanks to Edward Moylan & Aobha O'Gorman for organising both sets of troops.
Happy New Year to all Boro fans. See you in 25. β¬450 raised for Cois Nore Cancer Support here in Kilkenny.
