On a foggy October morning, Sunday 10th October, our U6 girls had an early start for their season finale of 2021. At 9:30am 32 girls lined out for the Bridge for a blitz in O’Garney park facing Cratloe and Clarecastle. With 70 u6's taking to the field, there was a great buzz and a great way to finish out the year. The girls showed some great skill and really put into practice all the skills they had learnt over the season.
The girls learned the basics:
· Gripping the hurley correctly with dominant hand on top
· Becoming accustomed to the ready position
· Understanding the lock position
· The Big C striking on the ground using both side ensuring feet are correctly aligned
Initial sessions had drills of rope with sliotars on them. Pulling left and right ensuring grip is correct, soloing with bean bags, striking and blocking.
There was also a focus on agility and movement with cones and ladders. The 11 coaches put in a big effort and it really showed in the girls mighty display on Sunday.
Thanks to the u16 girls who brought along the U16 cup they won and their help in presenting certificates and goodie bags to the girls. Thank you to Jamie Flynn Centra Sixmilebridge for sponsoring the goodie bags.
Thanks to the hurling club for providing the facilities and maintaining the pitches. Thanks to the camogie club for the support throughout the year and presenting the girls with sliotars and grips mid-season. Thank you to the teams that travelled to Sixmilebridge to play the girls and to the teams who hosted us through the year.
Big Thank you to all the parents bringing the girls to all the training sessions and blitz’s. It is a big commitment but it will stand to the girls in the years ahead in their social life’s and careers.
We look forward to seeing all the girls back on the field next year along with any new members. These girls will be a force to be reckoned with in the years ahead.
