As a primary school student June is as exciting as December with the build up to the holidays - Sports days, school tours, graduation days etc. have kids jumping out of the bed to get to school for the next adventure but for young boys and girls who love the Camán and Sliotar, representing their senior schools hurling & camogie team is the fond farewell to their primary school days for many. In fact for many the dream and excitement of playing in the Cumann na mBunscoil finals day in Clare GAA HQ at Cusack Park may match the excitement of the visit of the man in the red suit at December Holidays.
In 2023 we had boys and girls from the 'Bridge representing many schools in recent weeks and following the knockout stages this week we have players who will represent 2 schools across 4 teams on finals day next week.
The hurlers of St. Finnachtas Sixmilebridge are back in the final for the first time since 2013 when they face Gaelscoil Mhichíl Chiosóg Ennis in the final of the Division 1 Hurling competition on Thursday next at 3pm. The boys defeated Clarecastle in the semi final to qualify. Thanks to Bridget from Cosy Cottage who sponsored new jerseys for the boys.
The camogie girls of St. Finnachtas Sixmilebridge are back in the final having lost last years decider and following todays win over Crusheen will face Kilkishen/OC Mills on next Thursday at 2PM. Thanks to Chloe and Seadhna of Morey Movement for sponsoring the girls jerseys.
While outside the parish boundaries the club has always had a close association with Clonmoney NS over the years with lots of Bridge players educated at the Wells. This year their hurling and camogie team have qualified for the finals also with Bridge representation on both teams. They play their finals on Wednesday morning with the camogie at 9 and the hurling at 10.
Big Thanks to all the teachers who continue to give up their time on educating our future generation inside and outside the classroom and a special mention to Príomode Mr Heagney (SMB), Mr. Clohessy (Kilmurry) and Mr. McCormack (Clonmoney) who continue to promote the wonderful Irish culture of Hurling and Camogie in their schools.
Best of luck to all our players for what will truly be a day you will never forget.
