Aghada GAA Juvenile Match Reports (30/03/23- 01/04/24)

U14 Div 2 Football Aghada(2) 2-1  Fr. O’ Neills 1-6. Report by Pa O’ Connor 30/03/24                                                                                            We got our year off against Fr. O ‘Neill's  with a strong and committed performance from this group from start to finish. Fr. O’ Neill’s played with the aid of the wind in the first half and had a fair amount of ball. We conceded a early goal but defended solidly, we kept them to a 6pt lead at half time 1-3 to 0. In the second half we really went at them and we got 3 great scores 2  good  goals from Seán Day and MJ Duggan and a fine point from Mikey Creedon. Ultimately after great effort we lost by 2 points but a hugely positive display by all the boys. Best for Aghada Seán Day, Marcus O’ Loughlin, Conor O’ Reilly, Luke Hickey, Leon Joyce, Maidhc Collins, Mikey Creedon. Team: Harry Burgoyne, Luke Hickey, Maidhc Collins, Leon Joyce, Fionn Musgrave, Marcus O’ Loughlin, Cathal Grehan, Conor O’ Reilly, Colin Crowley, Seán Day, Tim O” Hanlon, Jake O’Sullivan, Gavin Conway, Rián O’ Brien, MJ Duggan.

U14 Div 1 Football League Midleton 3-5 Aghada 0-4
The concession of 3 early goals within the first 15 minutes proved decisive and propelled Midleton to victory at a windswept Clonmult park on Saturday afternoon. Once the game settled down and our lads got over the early shock from conceding the green flags, they went on to enjoy plenty of possession although scores were at a premium in the windy conditions. Dynamic midfielder Cormac Cashman opened our account with a well taken point after a barnstorming run and we ended the half with a neat score from center forward David Murphy to trail 3-2 to 0-2 at the break. The second half was nip and tuck, but we never really threatened to find the goals we needed to get back in contention. Darragh Callanan, Dara O’ Brien and Mike McCrae kept driving us forward and we had 2 more points from David Murphy but alas we were always playing catchup after the early Midleton goalscoring barrage. Team & scorers Harry Burgoyne, Finbar Alcock, Donncha Walsh, Darragh Callanan, Dara O’Brien, Mike McCrae, Leon O’ Connor, Cormac Cashman 0-1, Jack Kelleher, Conor O’ Rielly, David Murphy 0-3 0-1f, Marcus O’ Loughlin, Ben Duggan, Conor O’ Neill, Maidhc Collins. Subs used:Jake O’ Sullivan, Dylan Kearns, Rián O’Brien, Cathal Lowney.

U16 C3 Football League Aghada 6-7 Donoughmore 1-1 report by Óisín Counihan 30/03/24                                                                                                                                                   Our U16 C3 team made their first appearance of the year on a sunny but cold day in Rostellan Saturday afternoon. Our opposition for the day were Donoughmore. Donoughmore had a big physical side and with the aid of a slight wind they jumped out to an early lead. However we pegged them back with the first of two goals in the opening period. Two points followed before the second courtesy of great work from our forwards and we headed in at HT with a lead thanks to some great work by our defense, working against the elements. Our lads came out firing in the second half with a flurry of scores that gave us a comfortable lead. Some brilliant team football was making the game a great watch with subs rotating throughout and everyone getting gametime, we saw the game out to start the C3 season off well.

U-16 East 1 hurling league Passage 1-20 Aghada 3-8 report by Declan Crowley 01/04/24

The lads eventually got out on a hurling pitch today after a number of false starts for them and unfortunately that’s the way it looked with a very sluggish  first half had us 1-12 to 1-5 down , to be fair to the lads we were trying out a few different positions and players today, as this group hasn’t played together since last August, so back to basics in the second half and two great goals from Tom Walsh who was excellent all day and finished  with 2-7 and lovely finish from Matthew Condon had us hanging to the coat tails of Passage all through but they were that bit sharper than us today and we tired in the last few minutes, so on to Thursday night and hopefully for the fourth time of asking we’ll play Bride Rovers. Team: John Dorney, Jamie Sweeney, Eoghan Walsh, Will OO Mahony, Cian Moor, Josh McCarthy, Kalyan Cunningham, Sam McAllister, Jack Mulcahy, Cormac Crowley, Tom Walsh, Shay Rooney, Robbie Oosthuizen, Jack Dorney, Matthew Condon subs all used Jake Morrissey, Cillian Burke, Sam Morgan and Dara O’ Brien.
