Adult Match Reports
It was a very good week for our adult football teams with 7 wins out of 8 games.
Seniors. AFL 1.
Our mid week game was away to Lucan Sarsfield ,a team we always found hard to beat. Despite dominating possession in the first 15 minutes we were caught on the break from 2 turnovers , resulting in 2 goals and found ourselves down by 5 points. But a very well worked goal before HT left us a point up. In the second half we completely dominated and outscored Lucan by 2-8 to 1-2 . Final score BSJ 4-16 Lucan 3-8.
On Sunday morning we were at home to Ballymun with both teams depleted.. With a strong cross field breeze ,scores were hard to come by but Mun got the first score, a point. A well worked movement resulted in Jack Lundy kicking our first point. The next 5 minutes saw 2 outstanding movements but we failed to finish off the excellent goal chances. We kicked 3 of the next 4 points and were in control when a point effort by Mun ended in the back of the net. We rallied with 2 good points from play from Joe Sweeney and Nicky Deveroux before HT leaving us a point up on the scoreline of 0-7 to 1-3.
The start of the second half saw Mun kick the first 3 points. We replied with 2 point from Arron Bradshaw and an excellent point from Johnny Quirke. We then went on a run of points from Eoin Fitzpatrick, Jack Lundy , Dave Devereux, Colm Fitzpatrick, Arron Bradshaw before Mun scored the last point of the game to leave the final score 0-16 to 0-7. It was not a vintage display after such an impressive second half against Lucan. Best for BSJ were Ian O Heither , Dermot Kennedy, Colm Fitzpatrick and Jack Lundy.
Next up, is away to Skerries Harps next Monday at 7-30. We are now down to the last 3 games with us lying second on the table ,a point behind Na Fianna. Well done to the players and management in getting us to such a high standing in the table at this juncture .
Inters : AFL 4
Our mid week game was against Lucan in Marlay. The first 15 minutes showed all indications that this was going to be a tight game. However we really took over and were completely dominant ,running out winners on an impressive scoreline of 1-22 to 3-8 . The game saw a return of Peter O Curry who played in goal after years rehabilitating and he showed all his football acumen .
Our Saturday game was a critical match for us V St Finians Swords. Going into the game they were a point ahead of us in third place on the table. We got the first score a point from the free. Finians got the next 2 before Joey Quirke equalised with a great point. Finians, stronger in the tackle and more experienced got the next 2 points. It was 4 points each after 20 minutes when Finians were awardee a penalty which they converted , a penalty that left both sides baffled as to the reason it was given. We went in at HT 0-5 to 1-6 down.
The start of the second half saw the first score for BSJ, an excellent point from John Clair and after 10 minutes we had the score back to 0-8 to 1-7. However despite winning a lot of possession by putting a harder press on their kick outs we were unable to get ahead . We will regret missing two good goal opportunities mid way through the half. In fairness to our players they kept battling and scored some excellent points. However every time we scored ,Finians moved the ball down the field and scored. Final score 0-14 to 1-14. A young team ,heavily depleted should be proud of their effort and never gave up..
Next match is a home game V Skerries Harps next Wednesday at 7-30 in Marlay Park
Junior A : AFL 8
Our Junior A takes the team of the week award. With 2 matches last week and a back match this Tuesday they won all 3 to give them a fighting chance of getting promotion.
Our mid week match last week was a home match against St Peregines. We were in very impressive form winning on a scoreline of 7-18 to 0-7
Our weekend match was away to Skerries Harps. We were a point up at the break after playing against the wind, against a more experienced team and hitting 10 wides. The second half saw us use the ball better, playing with pace ,directness and width. We scored some excellent points and 4 goals from great movements . Final score BSJ 4-10 Skerries 0-8.
Best for BSJ were Gavin Fahy ,Eoin Bradley ,Mark Erdis and Oisin Cronin.
Our back match was away to Crokes. Unlike against Skerries we hit the ground running and were 2-8 to 0-2 up at HT. This very young team kept playing excellent football in the second half and ended easy winners on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-9.
Best for BSJ were Ben Peytin in goal, Kevin Mc Cabe, Kevin Power, James Bates and Michael De Faoite.
Next up is a home match V St Pats of Donabate next Tuesday in Marlay Park at 7-30. This is a critical match which we must win to keep us in contention for promotion
Junior B: AFL 11.
Our Junior B team had only one game last week and they kept they strong winning streak going.
We played third placed Ranleagh Gaels in Marlay. We started in blistering form and were 1-4 to no score up after 10 minutes ,with the goal coming from Owen Byrne. We then hit our second goal, coming from Seamus Mc Caffrey, back in the black and tangerine for the first time this year . Following a great movement he buried the ball to the back of the net, a rare goal from our former senior defender. We went on a run of points with the best coming from Cian Hallinan and Floppy Murphy. With a big panel of players and all trying to impress there was no let up in the intensity. With the backline well marshalled by Ciaran Mc Cabe and the midfield pairing of DJ Corbett and Seamus Mc Caffrey controlling that area, Ranleagh did not get their first score ,a point until the 32nd minute. HT score 2-10 to 0-1
With the agreement of the referee and opposition we made 10 substitutions early in the second half . One of the most impressive scores of the half was a point following a passing movement from defence by Ciaran Mc Cabe to Michael Mitchell to Sean Murphy to Cian Hallinan who slotted over. The third goal came after a dazzling run by young Oisin Daffy from 35 metres out and his rebound off the post was buried by Cian Duffy. The fourth gaol came when long time stalwart Rory Kyne just after coming off the bench planted the ball in the back of the net. The final score 4-15 to 0-3.
So we remain in pole position with 3 matches left to be played. Next up is away to Clanna Gael-Fonenoy next Thursday at 7-30
