Last week at North Kildare Tennis Club we saw the introduction of the Dyuce tennis ball recycling initiative to our club.
Dyuce’s mission is to recycle 60 million tennis balls over the next 5 years! An estimated 400 million tennis balls are discarded each year. Each ball is used for an average of just 6 hours but can take up to 300 years to decompose!
Dyuce take all collected tennis balls to their recycling partner where they completely remove the felt from the rubber. The rubber is then reused as a component in the soles of athletic footwear.
We wish to thank Davor, one of our members and his employer, Veolia for kindly funding this initiative through its Connect Programme which is their community sponsorship programme.
Thanks also to Sarah, our secretary who put in a lot of time and hard work into submitting the grant application to Veolia.
Members will be supporting this initiative by placing their used tennis balls in the collection bin on Court 1 which was installed by Stephen Boylan from Dyuce.
