Our U11 Green team continued their impressive cup run with a hard-fought victory against Kill Celtic FC in Kildare today. The match was a tense and exciting affair, with both teams battling for dominance from the start.
Rovers created the better chances early on, looking particularly dangerous down the flanks with Jamie O'Malley on the left and Mark Yukhymenko on the right. It was Yukhymenko who broke the deadlock, showcasing some neat footwork before calmly slotting the ball past the keeper.
Despite further opportunities, including a fantastic chance for Harry Philippon set up by Yukhymenko, the Rovers couldn't extend their lead before halftime.
The second half saw the Rovers continue to press for a second goal, but the Kill Celtic keeper produced some outstanding saves to keep his team in the match.
A special mention must go to Tom O'Brien, who controlled the midfield with composure and skill, and to Larry Brophy for his calmness and confidence in goal. Ultimately, it was a fantastic team effort, with every player contributing to a well-deserved victory.
Thank you to Kill Celtic for a very entertaining and competitive match. Our U11 Green team now marches on to the next round of the National Trophy!
