U10 Girls V Knigh utd Our U10 girls were playing against Knigh utd at home this morning in very cold but dry conditions. Other than the bitter cold it was perfect ! The game was lively from the beginning and both sides were looking to score first. It was Ballymackey who did score the first one through Caoimhe Manley who shot the ball hard past the Knigh keeper. We found the net a few minutes later and again it was Caoimhe! Knigh pulled one back before we hit the front again to make it 3-1. Our third was scored by Holly Fitzpatrick. Knigh came back again and scored their second to make it 3-2 at half time. We were against a stiff breeze in the second half and it looked like we'd be in trouble and especially when Knigh got a third goal to level the game. We had great performances Leanne Bergin, Sinead O'Meara, Maeve Quinn and Sally Mounsey in the back line and these girls made sure nothing else went past them! Elsa Fitzgerald, Kate England Cliodhna Maxwell, Emma Kelly were all brilliant in midfield and kept the pressure on Knigh. It was through really good team work from the defence and midfield that brought Holly Fitzpatrick and Caoimhe Manley into play around the Knigh box that we got our 4th goal and took the lead again. Caoimhe getting her hat-trick! Shortly after that some more great defensive work was on display and once again the girls played the ball through the zones with flair to find a super Holly Fitzpatrick at the end of the move to bury the ball to give Ballymackey the win. We had stand out performances from Caoimhe Manley, Maeve Quinn and Holly Fitzpatrick but we certainly wouldn't have won if Katie Hartnett hadn't played so good in goals! Katie gets better every week and her kick outs today were from the top drawer! You can really see improvements everywhere now in each of the girls. Keep training!! Well done to all the girls!! Many thanks to Knigh for travelling over!
