GERS U16 GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP ENDS AT SEMI FINAL STAGE.
Our U16 girls came out the wrong side of another goalfest against St.Patricks in last night’s championship semifinal. In the two league previous matches a staggering 30 goals were scored and once again both teams hit the net with regularity.
The girls got off to a poor start conceding 2-1 early on but two great team goals brought them back into it midway through the half. Both teams exchanged some great points but another error in our defence took the wind out of our sails. The Pats then tagged on a number of points but a third Gers goal on the stoke of half time meant the pats lead was only three.
In a competitive second half the forwards on both teams continued to dominate. Every time our girls narrowed the difference we conceded another goal. To their credit the girls heads never dropped throughout, and only a couple of great saves from the Pats goalkeeper denied a very tight finish. We tried hard to the end but couldn’t manage to get the vital scores needed to overcome the deficit. Congratulations St.Patrick’s on a deserved win. Best of luck to both peninsula teams in the final next weekend.
For our U15s their attention now turns to the National Feile competition which will be held in Abbotstown on Sat 2nd July.
It has been a brilliant campaign finishing runners up in the league winning 7/10 matches. Training for u16 will continue on Mondays throughout the summer with Adam our GPO.
We would like to put on record our thanks to all the girls for their commitment and dedication throughout the year. We wish them every success in the future. A brilliant squad of very talented girls.
