Under 13 girls update
After the heroics in football last week, it was camogie this weekend. Both teams had crucial games as it was the final championship group matches .
First up were the second team who made the trip down the road to Trinity Gaels. Both teams were seeking a win to reach the semi finals. Trinity started strongly and laid siege to the Finians goal for the first part of the game. On a huge pitch, against the wind and hill, Finians struggled to clear their lines. However they dug in and battled through to halftime.
Facing into the second half with a large deficit, the girls needed some inspiration. Perhaps it was the words of their mentors, or the sight of Dublin legend Vinny Murphy on the other line, but the girls came out strong in the second half. Some super scores closed the gap but Trinity had enough to hold on and claim the victory. The girls have a home semi in the shield in two weeks. 💪💪
At a much later throw in time to normal, the division 1 girls took on Ballyboden St Endas in Ridgewood needing a win to secure a semi final place. A fast start saw Finians open a handy lead but Ballyboden hung in there and chipped away at the lead to leave only 4 between the teams at halftime.
The second half started in the same vein with Finians unable to turn their dominance into points. The gap was down to 3 at one point. However, two quick goals from the forwards settled the nerves and girls were able to see out the game. With other results going their way, the girls secured 1st place in the group and a home semi final vs Faughs in two weeks. 👏👏👏
