GAA CLUB NOTES
Last Thursday the Junior team travelled to Bushfield Park to play Loughrea in Round 5 of Division 4B. It was a tough game for the Club’s third team, playing against Loughrea’s first team but they gave a good account of themselves. Despite hitting the back of the Loughrea net twice, points were the ultimate difference as Loughrea won on a final scoreline of Corofin 2-04 Loughrea 3-13.
The Seniors were away to Barna for Round 5 of Division 1 on Friday evening. In glorious weather, the senior lads started in flying form and played with attacking intent. Hitting the back of the net on four occasions, thanks to Gary Sice, Micheál Lundy, Dylan Wall and Dylan Canney, the game was too far out of Barna’s reach and the game finished up Corofin 4-09 Barna 1-08.
The Intermediates were away to Headford for Round 5 of Division 3A on Saturday evening and it was a convincing display by the team. They took command of the game from the start and never let up. The game finished Corofin 1-17 Headford 0-10. Goal from Alan Molloy.
This evening (Wednesday) the U-19 team play Claregalway in Kockdoemore at 7:30pm in the U19A Football League. Best of luck to the Players and Management team.
On Saturday, Galway play Derry in Pearse Stadium at 5:30pm for Round 1 of Group 1 in the All-Ireland Championship series. We wish the team and all Club players involved, the very best of luck.
LGFA CLUB NOTES
On Saturday evening the Senior ladies played Dunmore in Division 1. It was always going to be a tough challenge for the girls with so many injuries and also being without our County players. However it was a spirited display from the team while Dunmore ran out convincing winners. Heads up girls, brighter days ahead.
The Junior team played Clonbur on Sunday in Division 4 in Clonbur and both teams put on an impressive attacking display. The travelling support were treated to a goal-fest with Heather O’Leary (x2), Lorraine Ryder (x2), Rcahel Burke (x2) and Louise Reilly all hitting the back of the Clonbur net. Final score Corofin 7-08 Clonbur 4-13.
The Galway Seniors played Mayo on Sunday in the Connacht Championship Final, clinching the title from the reigning champions on a scoreline of Galway 1-11 Mayo 0-09. Leanne Coen (1 point) and Roisin Leonard (3 points) started the game for Galway.
UNDERAGE
The U-15 Boys Féile competition was played off last week and over the weekend. Corofin entered a team in Division 1 and Division 3 so it was a very busy few days for the coaches involved. The Division 1 team had a tough group and finished with a draw again Caherlistrane and two losses against Monivea-Abbey and Claregalway. The Division 3 team
Had two wins against Claregalway and St Michael’s and two losses against Oranmre-Maree and Headford in their group.
Overall, both teams played brilliantly, battled very well in each game and represented the Club incredibly well. Some fine football was played by everyone and we look forward to these players progressing through the grades and on to adult football very soon.
The Galway Ladies U14’s had a great win over Waterford in Portlaoise at the weekend, the results puts them through to the All-Ireland Semi-Final. Best of luck to Club players Orla Newell and Elli-Harty O’Brien in the upcoming Semi-Final!
