Rebel Óg East U16 Div 1 Football Championship

Aghada 5-13 St Michaels 0-4

The picturesque setting of our forest field was the venue for this championship encounter. We played towards Siddons tower in the first half and as the evening sun glistened on the sea that looked out the harbour to Lower Aghada and Cobh it provided the perfect backdrop for a scintillating display of football from our lads. Impressive midfielder Tom Walsh opened the scoring with a goal as he went on a meandering solo run to plant the ball in the back of the net. Points followed from a host of different scorers as we took a commanding grip on the game, with some of the points out of the top drawer and kicked with aplomb from a variety of distances. Our second goal came from a fine team move that ended with Tom finding Cillian Scanlon who struck a great shot to the bottom corner as we led 2-10 to 0-1 at the short whistle. Our opponents from Mahon did have some good quality possession but were finding our backline an impenetrable force especially the teak tough Eoghan Walsh and Cillian Burke. The second half started much like the first with an early green flag this time from the industrious Shay Rooney. More points flowed from the boot of lively full forward Cian Moore and a well executed 45 from Tom as we rolled along confidently. Kaylan Cunningham stormed through for a goal while our substitutes also made their mark with Conor Fleming finding the net with an exquisite finish and Aidan Johnston having the final say with a glorious point.
