SENIOR LADIES
Fresh off the back of the Corrib Oil Senior Club league title, the senior ladies commences  their Bon Secours Junior B Championship at home in a rematch with John Mitchels, who they had defeated just five days earlier to capture that league crown.
Another tough battle was anticipated and so it ensued. The sides went in at the break level, the Tralee side hitting two goals, the first a rather fortuitous effort and the second one  a penalty . The Ladies got their radar working early to slot over seven points in the opening half and it was anyones to play for in the second half . It looked like Mitchels were going to avenge that league defeat when they grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, hitting five points without reply in the third quarter . But the ladies didn’t panic and clawed their way back into the game with a very productive finale , getting some well worked scores and displaying great accuracy  from placed balls . The final scoreline read  0-16 to 2-08 in their favour and next they head along the west road to face Dingle on Monday of this week, the 26th August at 7.15pm. Kilcummin lie in wait in the final group game , which will be played in Direen on Monday September 2nd.

MOTHERS AND OTHERS
Our Mothers and Others troop are busy as usual, hosting Laune Rangers during the week for a bit of fun. It's the latest in a series of games they will be partaking in and it's never too late to join their crew. They meet Wednesday nights between 8-9pm in Direen and when all the football is done they are equally adept at having a cuppa and a chat. Social football with a twist at its best.

U13 BOYS
Kilcummin were the visitors to Direen last Tuesday in phase of the East Kerry League Division 1. They started the game strong and led by 2-8 to 1-4 at half time. Extending the lead to eleven points things looked ominous but credit to our boys they battled hard to close the gap to just five, 3-13 to 3-8 by full time. While defeat was their lot, there was loads of positives to be gleaned from the performance. Later in the week they met a strong Firies but some importantly timed goals saw the Farranfore side pull through. Nonetheless they have qualified for the semi finals which will take place this weekend.  Also through to the semi finals are the second team who secured a 1-14 to 0-8 over the same opposition.  That game also takes place on Sunday.

U17 BOYS
Our Minors finished the County Minor Championship with a tough trip to Tralee to play the County Club Champions Austin Stacks in the John Mitchels complex on Monday evening last. The lads started well and scores were evenly shared in the first quarter. Stacks,   gaining momentum,  hit a purple patch in the last five minutes of the first half to lead at the interval by four points , 0-9 to 0-5.  An early goal and some nice scores from play saw the Tralee side cruise into a lead and they netted two further times as a younger smaller Legion side battled with their power, pace and physicality.
Our boys raised 5 white flags in that second half and never gave up. Thanks to the ref on an excellent game and to the Stacks players and management for a game played in an excellent spirit. Final Score  Austin Stacks 3-16 Killarney Legion 0-10.

U14 GIRLS
Plenty of drama on a windy Sunday evening for our U14 girls in Glenbeigh against Cromane. In Round 2 of the East Kerry League. Playing against the elements in the opening half they stayed well in touch, trailing by only four at half time, 2-2 to 0-4. But the Mid Kerry side drove on in the third quarter doubling that advantage which left them with plenty work to do. But they rolled up their sleeves , increased the tempo, kicking some great scores and put in a storming fourth quarter to win out by two points in a breathless game. Final score Killarney Legion 2-13 Cromane 5-2.

U16 GIRLS
The U16 girls lined out last Thursday evening in the Div 6 county league semi-final. Inbheir Scéine Gaels were our hosts in a rain soaked Dromore. The miserable conditions did not deter the teams who served up an exciting entertaining contest.  It was the home side who settled better getting a few scores registered early in the first period. The Legion girls worked well and matched their opponents throughout the half but found the scores hard to come by.  At the half time whistle it was ISG in front and the girls had a lot to do to get back in the game.  The Legion girls pressed hard from the restart and tagged on a couple of scores to close the gap. A goal then set up a grandstand finish to the contest.  Both sides showed great heart and skill in very challenging conditions and it was anyone’s game coming down the stretch.  In the end it was the girls in green and white who were ahead by a single point when the referee called for the ball.  Fair play to all the girls on the pitch who braved the elements to provide a great game for all the sodden spectators in attendance. Thanks to ISG for a sporting game, the referee for officiating and to all the parents and supporters who made the journey. The girls now advance to the final to close out the campaign. Final score...Inbheir Scéine Gaels 0-06 Killarney Legion 1-04.
