📢 ❤️🤍👏🏼 It is with huge gratitude, sadness and nostalgia, we are bidding farewell to the Junior A management team of Peter McDermott, Barry Moyles and Frances Nugent.
In 2020, when asked would they step in and guide the talented, then Junior C, panel further up the ranks of the Meath LGFA competitions, few would have predicted how successful the top team in Peil na mBan would become. With 7 finals under their belts in just 4 years, the team have gone from strength to strength under the guidance of this management team; assisted by goalie coach Tosh Barry, and until recently, Ray Tully.
In 2021, in their first full year as managers, they guided the team to their Division 5 league final win followed by the Junior C, and Junior D panels, historic joint finals double win in Dunganny on Halloween. It was a fantastic day for the club, to win both coveted titles and finished off a great year in which they also guided the Minors to a Div 2 win in April.
2022 saw the Junior B team grow in strength, supported by their Junior C teammates, with many of the winning Junior C panel moving up the ranks to the Junior B team. History was again made when the Junior B team reached the final, narrowly missing out to Dunboyne. Following their league campaign and
a Masita Cup win in 2023, the Junior B panel went for glory again in the Championship final, this time making sure to secure the win.
And so, the Junior A Management’s agreed term was up after 3 amazing years. They were convinced to give it one more year and put the shoulder to the wheel to give the extremely talented Junior A team every chance to win the Junior A Championship in 2024. The team again secured a place in the final but promotion was not meant to be on this occasion.
The above is a very brief run through of the achievements on the pitch, however this management group also made their presence felt off the pitch and across the club. Alongside their coaching achievements, both Peter and Barry served their time on various committees in the club while also being leaders when it came to supporting any club fundraiser or initiative. As a management group they encouraged each and every member of the adult panel to give back to the club by also volunteering on committees and supporting club events. As the leaders of the coaching group in Peil na mBan they were generous with their time running workshops and sharing knowledge with less tenured coaching teams.
The hours volunteered to the club by this inspirational management group is incalculable. There is no one that could ever doubt the commitment, dedication and passion they had for the playing careers of each and every adult female player they coached. This dedication and time went in no small part towards Átha Troim having huge success at County level, most recently with 5 players being included on the winning U20 Meath LGFA squad.
As huge supporters of women playing sport, they supported the clubs dual players, their teams and coaches developing strong working relationships. The ever changing landscape of committees within the club never phased them as they adapted to each new group when changes inevitably happened.
On behalf of the current Peil na mBan committee we thank them for being role models and leaders in the club, and for their support of the various committees over the years.
We want to take this opportunity to also acknowledge our appreciation of the Junior C Management team of John McMorrow, Sean Murphy, Tosh Barry and Tanya Vaughan who have made the decision to step into other coaching groups in the club and county. We wish them the best of luck in their new adventures.
Lastly, huge appreciation for the wives, husbands and families of all these coaches, mentors and FLO’s who have sacrificed a huge amount of time with their loved ones over the last 4 years. You are unsung heroes and we thank you too.
Thank you all. Enjoy the free time, find a new hobby, don’t be strangers and remember the gate is always open!
Attached are only a few of the successes racked up in the last 4 years 👏🏽👏🏽
