A heroic effort from the Trim girls just came up short in Rathmolyon on Sunday in the Senior B Camogie final. Trim lost the toss and had to contend with playing into the severe wind that was Storm Ashley.
Boardsmill got off to the perfect start in the first minute with a goal from a long ball, which evaded the Trim defence and ended up in the back of the Trim net. Boardsmill were making the most of the wind advantage and added two points before Trim got themselves on the scoreboard from a free from Shona White. Both teams then traded scores before Boardsmill added another point from a free.
As they have done throughout the year the Trim girls were contesting and battling for every ball and were unlucky not to get a goal when Emma Hanafin shot narrowly wide after a period of good Trim possession. Shona got her third point of the game with a couple of minutes left in the half, but it was Boardsmill who finished the half stronger with two points to extend their lead further.
Half-time score: Trim 0-03 v Boardsmill 1-07
Trim started the second half well with a point from Emma Hanifin inside the first minute. Trim again traded points with Boardsmill before a goal from Shona narrowed the lead to three points with ten minutes remaining. Trim could have had a penalty shortly after when Emma Hanifin looked to be fouled when she had the goal at her mercy. Trim continued to put Boardsmill under pressure for the last ten minutes but unfortunately couldn’t convert that pressure to scores.
The game ended on a scoreline - Trim 1-05 v Boardsmill 1-08.
Congratulations to our neighbours, Boardsmill, and the best of luck next year in Senior A.
Getting to the Senior B final was a brilliant achievement for this young Trim team in their first year back in Senior competition after winning last year's intermediate championship. The average age of the team is only twenty, which all bolds well for the future for this group of girls. The management team would like to thank the girls for their amazing commitment throughout the year. You all should be very proud of yourselves.
