Our Senior side picked up their first win of the 2024 Senior Championship on Friday evening with victory over Doonbeg in a hard fought game in Kilmihil.
The early exchanges were tight as both sides attempted to gain dominance in the possession stakes. Doonbeg open the scoring in the 8th minute with Oisin Looney getting Miltown on the scoreboard 4 minutes later with a point from play. Doonbeg regained the lead before a fine long range point from Conor Cleary levelled matters with 15mins on the clock. Miltown proceeded to score the next 2 points from Cian Mahony & Cormac Murray before a Doonbeg score left the minimum between the sides at the half time whistle.
Two Miltown goals proved to be the story of the second half . Euan Lineen had extended Miltowns lead with a close in free before Cormac Murray found the back of the net after his initial shot was saved by Eamonn Tubridy with 10 minutes on the clock. Doonbeg responded immediately with a point before Euan Lineen smashed in Miltowns second goal of the game to give Miltown a lead they were never to relenquish. Sean Neylon knocked over a point in the 15th minute and despite not scoring for the remainder of the half, Miltown showing great discipline and resolve in defence restricted Doonbeg to 3 points and emerged winners by 5 points.
