Our Senior side rounded off the group stages of this year’s championship with a five-point victory over Ennistymon in Cooraclare on Sunday. Miltown got the scoreboard operator into action early on with a Kieran Malone point in the first minute followed by scores by Darragh McDonagh & a Euan Lineen free to establish a three-point lead after 6 minutes. Ennistymon despite having plenty of possession and a few decent chances took until the 11th minute to open their account with a point .The sides then exchanged points over the following 5 minutes with Miltowns scores coming from Cian Mahony & Gordon Kelly to leave the scoreline Miltown 0-5 to Ennistymon 0-3 after 20 minutes. The final 10 minutes of the half saw Miltown add a further three points to their tally from Eoin Cleary, a fine long-range point from Darragh McDonagh & another Euan Lineen free to leave five points between the sides at ½ time.
Miltown started the second half slowly and allowed Ennistymon to chip away at their half time lead with six unanswered points to give the North Clare side a one-point lead with ten minutes remaining. The defining score of the game came after a fine catch and a rampaging run from Darragh McDonagh ended up with Eoin Cleary finishing to the back of the Ennistymon net to give Miltown a two-point lead. A second Kieran Malone point straight after extended the lead to three points. Ennistymon rallied again with a point but the final three points of the game from Darragh McDonagh & Eoin Cleary (2) gave us a five-point lead as the clocked ticked towards 30 minutes. Ennistymon done their best to get back into the game but found a resolute and disciplined Miltown defence impossible to penetrate and as the final whistle blew Miltown emerged winners and now await the ¼ final draw to see who their next opponents will be in 4 weeks’ time.
